Diboll's home rule charter passed, with 254 voters voting for it and 150 against it. The charter will give the city authority to regulate itself instead of having to follow state guidelines in all cases.

Incumbent Don Hendricks and challenger Gary Jones won two of the three full-term positions on the Diboll City Council. Hendricks had 213 votes and Jones had 194 votes. Incumbent Fred Mitchell and challenger Gary Mike Smith tied for the third position, each having 175 votes.

"That's going to have to be worked out," Diboll City Manager Kenneth Williams said.

Incumbent Gandy Stubblefield, who was also vying for one of the seats, got 139 votes.

For a replacement one-year term on the council, Larry Cook won with 245 votes. Bryan Wilson had 78 votes and Charles Chapman had 72.  Read more about it in the Lufkin Daily News.

The move is now complete; the books are on the shelves and ready for check out. The Library will open for business at 9:00am on March 24, 2008. Welcome back everyone!

One hundred and forty-six dozen tamales were sold before 1 p.m. by Adelfa Sanchez on Saturday at the first ever Diboll Tamale Festival; and according to the judges, her tamales were only good enough for second place in the cook-off.

Delia Rojas captured first-place honors with her tamales, and Phil Clark placed behind Sanchez in third. However, it wasn't the tamales, but rather the lack there of, that left patrons wide-eyed with wonder at Diboll's Lottie & Arthur Temple Civic Center.  Read more about it in the Lufkin Daily News.
